Yle Drupal Distro
Starting point
The Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle) has for a long time been one of Finland’s most active Drupal users. When Yle’s Swedish language department wanted to begin renewing their platform and processes for internet journalism in 2011, a general Drupal installation was created as a by-product, which was also adopted by the Finnish language department.
What we did
In 2013 the Swedish language department’s SYND platform was divided, and the Finnish language department’s FYND was created alongside components shared by both platforms, called YDD (Yle Drupal Distro). Druid has taken active part in the development of all three applications from the spring of 2013.
Results
Multiple Finnish and Swedish websites were transferred to the newly built platform, including The Finnish Broadcasting Company’s business information page. By centralizing, Yle was able to trim excess systems that had to be maintained, which allowed the focus of development to be shifted into a common platform. By investing into Drupal, Yle has become an active part of the international community.
The acronym SYND comes from the words "Svenska Yles nya Drupal-plattform" (“Swedish Yle’s New Drupal platform”). Druid has been one of Yle’s trusted Drupal partners since our formation, and we have worked with both the Finnish and the Swedish language departments, with the size of our team varying according to the client’s needs.
Some examples of the pages realized with the platform are the Docventures site, Yle’s business information site and the Elävä arkisto archive site.
Our development team have also left their mark on the below video (Three years of Yle Drupal Distro / Yle), which accounts the development of Yle’s Drupal platform over a time period of three years.
