Nelonen Media's Ruutu is one of the most popular web TV services in Finland. Druid has been a part of Ruutu's development process nearly since the start of our operation. During these years we have succeeded in our goal and done our part to help Ruutu maintain its top position as a modern and easy to use web based entertainment center for the home.
What did we do?
Druid's role within the Drupal 7 based Ruutu project has mainly been in the development of features that improve the user interface and user experience. We have taken part in building among other things the Commerce web store that receives orders, and the Drupal 8 based content creation system that many of Nelonen's consumer services use. We have also realized Nelonen's TV guide.
Results
Excellent content and a reliable technical platform have helped Sanoma Media Finland's Ruutu to become Finland's largest video network, reaching 2.7 million Finnish viewers each month. A web channel is a more versatile channel for both viewers and advertisers.
Web TV service Ruutu offers viewers a large selection of shows from Nelonen Media's TV channels. Nelonen's quality dramas and TV shows, Jim's fun and easy-going entertainment and Liv's diverse selection of lifestyle programs cater to a wide audience. In addition to TV shows, Ruutu offers the chance to watch video clips from radio shows.
Drupal platform enables the development of additional services that complement viewing experiences, such as the real time match stat service we built to run alongside matches from the Finnish Liiga ice hockey league. The centralized content creation service makes use of Drupal 8's new features that allow the content to be created in one place and distributed through feeds to consumer websites that utilize the service.
The user experience is a smooth combination of a JavaScript user interface and the Drupal powered background system. A good example of a seamless user experience is Nelonen's TV guide, which provides a single glimpse view of Sanoma Media's entertainment selection available both on the TV and the web.
