Spreading the magic: Druid at DrupalJam

DrupalJam, the largest Drupal community event in the Netherlands, took place in Utrecht on May 12. About 350 Drupal enthusiasts got together in De Fabrique, an old factory turned into an event venue, on a beautiful summery day. This year, Druid was there as well, bringing some Finnish rock ’n’ roll flavour to the event as a Platinum sponsor.

As a newcomer in the Dutch Drupal community, we were happy to make new friends and explore new partnerships at the conference. Our booth worked its magic, and our new T-shirts proved to be very popular among the attendees – and their children! You are never too young to be a Druid, right?

Quite understandably, many people asked us inquisitive questions like “Why have you come all the way here?”, and “What are your plans for the Dutch market?”. The answer is simple: we wanted to introduce ourselves to the Dutch Drupal community, get to know people and gain valuable contacts for potential partnerships. Last summer we expanded to Amsterdam and we are now looking for opportunities to strengthen our foothold in the Dutch market. DrupalJam was a good start. We feel encouraged about all the interesting and fruitful discussions with potential partners at the event.

In addition to all the networking, Bart Feenstra gave a presentation about the PHP Framework Interoperability Group (PHP-FIG). In the session, he basically described how Drupal, and other PHP projects, have become less isolated, and how we’re now viewing other projects for inspiration and integration.

The room was full and the audience raised some good questions about how FIG relates to the developers of PHP, to Drupal, and to PHP language itself. These questions indicate a desire to know more about the wider PHP community.

Following the event and afterdrinks, we continued the evening with dinner and some more drinks with about 25 people who were not in a hurry to get home that night. :)

We very much enjoyed all the good discussions at the event and look forward to meeting more people from the Dutch Drupal community in the future. You’ll be finding us at some local meetups in Amsterdam, like Dinner with Drupal, the next one taking place on June 14, and Drupal Show & Tell, Questions & Answers. Come and say hi!
